Recovery System
Design: I designed the recovery system to bring home a rocket weighing approximately 55lb. The system was controlled by redundant commercial altimeters and deployed a 144” diameter main, and a 36” drogue chute in a duel event duel deployment fashion.
Construction: I constructed the recovery system from commercially available fiberglass components, and 3D printed large sections of the mounting hardware.
Testing: Numerous tests were performed to ensure that pyrotechnic charges fired reliably, pistons moved smoothly, and shear pins sheared correctly. After lots of tests, a successful configuration was obtained.
