Recovery System

My Role:
My role in overseeing the project was to set design criteria. I modeled all components in Fusion 360 and managed the assembly. I had a large role in the construction of the system, and directed the testing and validation of the recovery system.

CAD: Complete Assembly

Overview:
Main goals were to recover a rocket weighing between 75-90lb from an altitude of 10,000ft. System was designed to be a duel event duel deployment system. This means that two independent CO2 ejection events occur at two different points in the flight deploying a drogue and main parachute.

Testing:

Testing the recovery system is incredibly important. If the parachutes don’t deploy in flight, there are no second chances. We ran dozens of ground tests to ensure that CO2 ejection systems were reliable, and that the pistons would move freely, and that shear pins would work as intended.
